Switching from UserWay to Aegis Firma

UserWay was acquired by Level Access in March 2024 for $98.7 million and continues to operate its overlay widget as its own brand. In 2024, UserWay was named in a class-action complaint (Bloomsybox.com, LLC v. UserWay) alleging its compliance and lawsuit-protection marketing claims were misleading. If you are moving from an overlay-only approach to code-level WCAG remediation with an honest report, this guide covers the switch.

Why Teams Leave UserWay

A 2024 class-action complaint alleges UserWay’s ADA-compliance and "$1,000,000 Litigation Support Pledge" marketing claims were misleading and structured to rarely pay out — an allegation, not a proven finding
Still an overlay at its core — the same Overlay Fact Sheet objections (800+ signatories) that apply to overlay vendors generally apply to UserWay’s widget
Bundle pricing scales with pageviews and is not fully published — the real cost at scale is hard to predict up front
No incomplete-scan disclosure or code-level fix list — the widget runs, but you don’t get a report of what is still broken underneath

What You Gain with Aegis Firma

A direct scan of your site’s real HTML against 23 machine-tested WCAG 2.2 A/AA success criteria
A prioritized, lawsuit-risk-ranked fix list for your developer — code-level remediation, not a runtime patch
An honest incomplete-scan disclosure when a page is too JavaScript-rendered for full static coverage
Free scan, no signup, to see your baseline before committing to a plan
Published, flat pricing: $79/$199/$399 per month by site count and scan frequency — no traffic-based pricing to forecast

Step-by-Step Migration Guide

1

Run a free Aegis Firma scan of your site

Go to /tools/ada-accessibility-scan and enter your URL — no signup required. This gives you an independent baseline of what WCAG 2.2 AA violations actually exist on your rendered page, overlay or not.

2

Decide whether to keep or remove the UserWay widget

Removing it is not required to use Aegis Firma — the scanner reads your rendered page either way.

3

Sign up and select your ADA plan

Choose ADA Starter ($79/mo, 1 site, weekly scans), Pro ($199/mo, 5 sites, daily scans), or Unlimited ($399/mo, unlimited sites, real-time).

4

Work the prioritized fix list

Every violation is ranked by lawsuit-risk weight and comes with plain-English fix instructions your developer can implement directly in your code.

5

Turn on scheduled re-scans and regression alerts

Weekly (Starter) or daily (Pro/Unlimited) scans catch new violations the next deploy introduces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the UserWay class action about?

Bloomsybox.com, LLC filed a class-action complaint against UserWay alleging its marketing overstated the compliance and lawsuit-protection value of its widget, including claims about a "$1,000,000 Litigation Support Pledge" the complaint says was structured with conditions unlikely to ever be met. This is a private civil complaint, not a government enforcement order — treat it as an allegation, and verify current case status independently.

Is UserWay the same company that got the $1M FTC fine?

No — that FTC order was against accessiBe, a different overlay vendor, finalized in April 2025. UserWay is a separate company, now owned by Level Access, and has not been the subject of that specific FTC action.

Does Level Access ownership make UserWay’s widget more reliable?

Level Access is a longstanding accessibility firm known for manual testing and audits, which may bring more rigor to UserWay’s services over time. The widget itself, however, is still an overlay — the code-level limitations that apply to overlays generally still apply.
